Angel
by R.Alton

I thought I just heard a gasp, Like someone took their last breath, A sound like someone just gave up, And lost all that they had left, Shocked and confused I stood frozen, I somehow found strength to turn around, It seemed there was something floating, Hovering just above the ground, At first the image appeared blurry, I could not believe what I saw, There was something intangible before me, I had no strength to stand at all, I looked up at an apparition, Transparent but solid just the same, It made a sound I couldn’t mention, Maybe it was a word maybe a name, It pointed towards a spot in time, Past me but exactly where I stood, Without words it spoke my mind, To be the man I knew I could, It spoke of love, trust, forgiveness, and grace, To hold on to the essence of what I am, Humbly I bowed before its face, Rising up as a different young man, It left as quickly as it had appeared, I stood there in shock unable to move, Dreams, hopes, and direction seen clear, I knew exactly what I had to do, It swelled me up more than pride, Leaving me strong in my faith, An angel had opened up my eyes, And showed me a holy place.
