Acceptance
by Lynn Hilton
How do you learn to let go of a special person you've loved?
Each day you cherish and hug the moments,
thinking it may be their last.
You try not to be selfish, as you try to help and comfort
your loved one.
Who is burdened enough as the will to live gets weaker.
They struggle not with live itself, but with the knowledge
they must leave you behind.
Others have gone before, others were left to face their loss.
Your loved one will soon be with them all.
You anguish as the life they had can be no more.
You listen and watch as it starts to pass them by.
Knowing there can be no future in their tomorrows.
Gaining a will to be stronger than you really are.
Hiding the tears and pain you feel.
You pray for the strength to endure.
As that special person helps you get through the turmoil
you are feeling.
The pain they alone are suffering and struggling over.
You can not share, as they begin to part from you.
In the end you turn to God leaving it in his hands.
Where every life begins, until at last he calls them home.
Parting for what ever time, until you yourself go down that
long road alone.
