To Fly, An Angel Must Unfurl Her Wings
by Rev. David Obregón

To fly, an angel must unfurl her wings
To brave winds knowing no Divinity,
To leap in faith against uncertainty,
To stretch her soul in Wisdom's weatherings.

To fly, an angel must first love her flight,
To feel her freedom float on fragile sail,
To know her time is now, to soar or fail,
To know her flight alone is God's bright light.

To fly, an angel must expose her breast
To arrows loosed in careless selfish aim —
To risk flight's end in shriek of shearing pain —
To face her fears in soaring Spirit's quest.

To fly, an angel must go forth alone
To navigate the dreaming night's pathways,
To tread the darkened clouds of heartbreak's haze,
To thrill in exploring what can be known.
